What is Hypomania?

Hypomania is defined as a disorder characterized by a persistently slightly elevated mood, increased drive and increased activity, increased sociability, talkativeness, over-familiarity, increased libido and a decreased need for sleep.

In contrast to mania the symptoms of hypomania are less intense and do not lead to serious social impairment.

In some patients, instead of euphoric sociability irritability, overconfidence, and (particularly in adolescents) boorish behavior may occur.
